Title
Prem Bahadur (Salghare) reciting and making offerings during sakela or bhume puja
Description
Salghare, a ritual specialist (nagire nakcho or kubimi) of the Dumi Rai in his ritual dress performs a part of the sakela or bhume ritual in one of the most important households of the village. Together with a couple of ritual assistants (taya) he offers local brandy (raksi) and rice to the ancestors through the fire place of the house while reciting. The traditional, ritually inaugurated fire place consists of three round stones that represent different sets of ancestors, surrounded by a stone demarcation.
