- Title
- Villagers dancing sakela in the school yard after the rituals at the bhume or sakela than
- Description
- During the day of the sakela puja, and increasingly after all offerings at the households and the sakela than are concluded, the participants gather at a flat ground in the village, here the school yard, and dance the sakela dance which is performed in circles around a leafy tree branch stuck into the ground in its center. Throughout the day, the dance is performed at the stations of the ritual in small numbers, while towards the evening the circles get bigger and people dance and sing well into the night. Among the Dumi Rai the first dance circles are inaugurated by a ritual specialist (nagire nakcho or kubimi).
Here the ritual assistants with the laito (rice baskets) arrive at the dancing place from the bhume or sakela than.
