Performance of the jalim or bali puja
Description
One part of the bhume or sakela agricultural ritual is the jalim or bali puja, the maize offering. Performed by a ritual specialist (nagire nakcho or kubimi), in this case Prem Bahadur Rai (Salghare), it mostly takes place on the verandas of the houses among the Dumi Rai. A temporary altar with the offerings of maize, ginger, and other items is set up, and dismantled again immediately after the performance is completed.
