Title
The official ritual specialist or shaman of the Kirat Rai Yayokkha performing sakela puja at Hattiban temple
Description
At the time of this sakela puja, the official ritual specialist or shaman of the Kirat Rai Yayokkha was Asta Bahadur Rai (also called Pandere) from Poklu village of the Dumi Rai. The offerings placed at the Hattiban temple mainly consist of fruits, rice, incense, money, and flowers. While in the villages the offering of animals such as cocks and pigs are widespread among the Rai, the urban Rai decided to largely abstain from animal offerings at Hattiban temple. The offering space in Hattiban temple consists of four sides, each of which is the ritual space for one of the Kirat groups: Rai, Limbu, Yakkha and Sunuwar.
